Calhoun County Release Meaning
“Released” describes the end of one agency’s custody, but it does not always mean the person entered the community. At the Calhoun County Jail, a person may leave after posting bond, receiving release on recognizance, completing a county sentence, receiving credit for time served, or because a judge ended the basis for detention. The same jail can also hand someone to the Florida Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration authorities. That handoff is a transfer. The Calhoun County Jail Log cannot tell these events apart once the card is gone.
State-prison discharge is different. A person at Calhoun Correctional Institution remains in FDC custody if moved to another prison. A true FDC release appears in the statewide offender record, usually in current status and incarceration or release history. Physical departure can be followed by probation, parole, conditional release, community control, or another form of supervision. The release event, destination, court outcome, and supervision record should be read as one chain.
- Discharge
- An agency-recorded end to a term of custody or supervision.
- Time served
- A sentence outcome crediting time already spent in custody.
- Transfer
- A move from one custodian to another, not release into the community.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another agency to take custody.
Calhoun County Release Types
The release label determines the next useful record. Bond and recognizance end the current jail hold while the case often remains open. A completed sentence ends the stated custodial part, though probation or another case may continue. Dismissal or nolle prosequi can end the case basis for custody, but the court entry is not the jail’s door-out timestamp. Calhoun County transfer entries require a follow-up search in the receiving system.
| Departure type | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial custody ends under court-set terms | CCSO release transaction and Clerk docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The county custodial term ends | Release record and complete judgment |
| Dismissal or court order | The legal basis may end before jail processing | Court order plus actual CCSO release time |
| FDC commitment | County custody changes to state custody | FDC Offender Search |
| Other-agency handoff | Another county, USMS, or ICE takes custody | Receiving agency and related court record |
A medical move, death, data correction, or court transport can also change a roster display. No conclusion should rest on disappearance alone.
Calhoun County Release Record Fields
There is no single universal card for every Calhoun County released inmate. The most useful county record links one booking episode to its exit transaction. A narrow request should identify the person, approximate booking period, and known CCN or case number. Internal fields may vary, and some information can be redacted. The inventory below describes the fields worth requesting, not a promise that every field exists or is public in every case.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking or jail number | Connects the release to the correct custody episode |
| Booking date and time | Marks entry into the county booking system |
| Actual release date and time | Marks the processed exit or handoff |
| Release disposition or reason | Distinguishes bond, sentence completion, court action, or transfer |
| Destination or receiving agency | Shows whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Charges, warrant, and bond data | Ties the departure to the legal and booking context |
| Booking photograph | Identifies the image from that exact episode |
For a state prisoner, the record set is broader. FDC may show a DC number, current status, sentence history, incarceration and release history, detainers, aliases, a state photograph, and community-supervision history. Its public “Current Release Date” label must be read in context. It may be a projection on an active record and is not the same thing as an actual release-history event.
Request Calhoun County Release Records
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian for its jail booking and release transactions. The public-record page names Crystal Chason and provides the official CCSO request route, 850-674-5049, and publicrecords@calhouncountyflsheriff.gov. The clearly sourced sheriff address is 20776 Central Avenue East, Blountstown, FL 32424-2276. Call before an in-person visit because no separate records-unit schedule or guaranteed turnaround is published.
- Give the full name, known aliases, date of birth if known, and a narrow booking or release date range.
- Include the CCN, booking number, case number, or warrant number when available.
- Ask for the existing booking and release record, actual release time, disposition, destination, bond result, and booking photograph.
- Request electronic nonexempt copies and ask for the statutory basis of each redaction or withholding.
- Ask for a cost estimate before broad searches or extensive clerical work begins.
Florida Statute § 119.07 permits ordinary copy charges of up to $0.15 for a one-sided standard page, another $0.05 for a two-sided copy, actual duplication cost for other media, and up to $1 for a certified copy when no other fee controls. Extensive technology or labor may support a reasonable special-service charge. CCSO does not publish a separate flat schedule on the cited page, so the scope and estimate matter.
A request should seek existing records or identified data fields. It should not demand that CCSO create a new explanation or database.
Calhoun County Release Record Law
Florida’s Constitution and chapter 119 support access to agency records, subject to exemptions. Section 119.07 requires inspection and copying at reasonable times and under reasonable conditions. It also calls for nonexempt portions when other material must be withheld. Juvenile data, protected victim information, active investigative material within the statutory definition, medical data, security material, and sealed or expunged records can limit access. A public booking or release record is not automatically confidential just because custody ended.
The state GS2 correctional-record schedule separates web visibility from agency retention. Booking Records, Commitment and Release Lists, and Inmate Incarceration Records each have stated minimum retention of one anniversary year after release, subject to applicable audit release. The record copy of a jail docket book is permanent. These minimums do not require a web archive and do not prove every field exists for each booking. They do show why a missing Kologik card should lead to the records custodian, not the conclusion that no record remains.
Florida sealing and expunction under §§ 943.059 and 943.0585 require eligibility steps and a court order. They are not automatic after dismissal or release. When an official portal withholds or removes protected material, a stale copy should not be used to rebuild it.
Transportation After Calhoun County Release
Getting home from a Calhoun County release may require advance planning. Calhoun Transit operates by reservation, and its public information says trips generally must be arranged at least 24 hours ahead. Eligibility or prequalification can apply. No scheduled city-bus stop at the jail release door was verified, so the service should not be treated as an assured pickup.
Call 850-674-4496 before an expected departure and confirm eligibility, pickup location, timing, and the destination served. A projected date may change, and CCSO does not publish a fixed release hour. Travel plans should allow for processing and should rely on direct confirmation from the person or facility.
Calhoun County Pretrial Release
Calhoun County Ordinance 2015-02 assigned administration of a county pretrial-release program to the Calhoun County Probation Office. A county directory places Probation in Courthouse Room 229 and lists 850-674-5543. The old ordinance also stated a monthly administrative fee for County Court participants, but a 2015 figure does not prove the same cost remains current in 2026.
Call the office for the present program terms and cost. Pretrial release does not dispose of the criminal case. It ends jail detention under specified terms while the court process continues, and the supervision order or docket controls the conditions. The CCSO release transaction remains the best record of when the physical exit occurred.
Identification After Calhoun State Release
Florida law creates a state-prison release detail that should not be copied onto short county-jail stays. For qualifying FDC sentence-expiration releases, § 944.605 calls for coordination to provide a Florida-born inmate a certified birth certificate and state identification card, subject to statutory exceptions. It also addresses help with Social Security or out-of-state identity documents and requires an FDC release photograph before an anticipated state release.
This rule can apply to a person leaving Calhoun Correctional Institution. It does not automatically apply when someone bonds out of Calhoun County Jail. The custodian and sentence type must be identified first. Questions about an FDC release packet belong with FDC; county property or booking matters belong with CCSO.
Calhoun Release Orders and Timing
Calhoun’s court route divides felonies into Circuit Court and misdemeanors or incarcerable criminal traffic into County Court. The Calhoun CiviTek portal supports anonymous case searching. A case number is safer than a common name. Useful docket entries include bond orders, dismissal, judgment and sentence, jail credit, probation, and commitment to FDC.
Online filing and jail processing do not share one clock. The Clerk’s access agreement warns that filed paper or electronic documents may not appear online at once. A signed same-day release order may require a Clerk phone check, and it still does not state when CCSO completed the physical exit. Pair the judicial event with the Calhoun County release transaction when the exact time matters.
The Clerk’s general office is at 20859 Central Avenue E., Room 130, Blountstown, and the published phone is (850) 674-4545. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time.
Find Calhoun County Released Inmates
A reliable search starts with the source that held the person. Calhoun County does not publish a labeled 24-hour or 72-hour released-inmate feed. The Kologik Jail Log is current-custody oriented, and its public history setting was disabled during research. A card that remains visible supports current custody at that check. A card that disappears provides only a lead.
- Search the CCSO Jail Log once. If a card appears, record the CCN, exact name, booking time, arresting agency, charge, bond note, and case identifier.
- Use the county 07 court portal to read the related order or disposition. Do not substitute a docket order for the jail’s actual release time.
- Ask CCSO for the release transaction, including disposition and receiving agency if the event was a transfer.
- If the destination is FDC, search the statewide offender record. If another county or federal agency received the person, use that system.
- Check current supervision after a prison release because physical release and legal discharge are different events.
A released person usually leaves the live jail roster. Disappearance can also reflect transfer, court movement, medical movement, or a data correction.
The same-day fallback and records-list distinction are developed on the Calhoun Jail Releases: 24 Hours page.
Calhoun State Release Offender Search
FDC exposes five related searches: all corrections databases, inmate population, inmate releases, supervised population, and absconders or fugitives. The dedicated Inmate Release Information Search covers state inmates already released or scheduled for release and includes photographs. FDC says the release search updates nightly. County-only jail sentences and ordinary county probation are outside its stated scope.
The release-first database takes a last name, first name, or six-character DC number. Name searches use prefixes and may return several people. Search aliases and a photos-only limit are available. Identity should be matched through the DC number, date of birth, physical identifiers, sentencing county, case, and offense information, not a name alone.
| Search field | Use | Key caution |
|---|---|---|
| DC number | Most precise state identifier | Six digits or one letter and five digits |
| Last and first name | Prefix-based person search | Confirm aliases and identity fields |
| Current status | Shows the live state label | Read the exact term used by FDC |
| Current Release Date | Reader-facing date field | May be projected and is not proof of exit |
| Incarceration history | Shows admission and release events | Old facilities are not current placement |
| Supervision history | Shows post-prison control | Release can coexist with active supervision |
The official search menu shows the distinct database paths and their update rules.
View the FDC Offender Search menu before choosing a database.
The menu matters because a released state prisoner, a supervised person, and a county detainee do not belong to the same search category.
Calhoun County Release Supervision
Probation is generally imposed by a court. Parole is discretionary release by the Florida Commission on Offender Review for a limited, mainly older-law population. Conditional release is a separate statutory form of post-prison supervision. Community control is intensive supervision in the community. The individual FDC record or court order should supply the exact term.
Open the FDC record and read current status plus community-supervision history. Then use the Community Corrections directory to locate the assigned office. Calhoun is served through the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit, but assignments can cross county lines or change. The Panama City Circuit Office serves Calhoun for state supervision; county Probation and Pretrial is a different office. The Calhoun County Probation & Parole page explains how to separate those channels.
An absconder label indicates the person is not reporting as required. It is not a new conviction and does not show successful completion. Report the exact official status and verify it with FDC, FCOR, or the court when a violation case is filed.
Calhoun Release Alerts and Federal Records
Florida Statewide VINE covers participating county-jail, FDC custody, and supervision information. Search one person, confirm the supplying agency, and register on that matched record for available telephone, text, email, or app notifications. A VINE event belongs to the reporting agency and is not the source release transaction. If the event is a transfer, follow the receiving custodian.
Federal records use other tools. The BOP Inmate Locator can show “Released” and a date for covered sentenced federal prisoners, generally from 1982 forward. It does not establish what happened in a Calhoun County booking. ICE’s ODLS is a current detention locator, not a lasting release archive. No result can reflect release, transfer, processing delay, data mismatch, or a category outside the display.
| Person or event | Best first source | What confirms release |
|---|---|---|
| Current Calhoun jail detainee | CCSO Jail Log | CCSO release transaction after departure |
| Released county detainee | CCSO records and Clerk case | Actual time, disposition, and destination |
| Florida state prisoner | FDC Offender Search | Changed status and release-history event |
| Federal sentenced prisoner | BOP Inmate Locator | BOP status and date in federal context |
| Current immigration detainee | ICE ODLS | Receiving facility or official ICE confirmation |
ICE Handoffs After Calhoun Release
A historical 2019 ICE Warrant Service Officer agreement for Calhoun County was structured around scheduled release from criminal custody and transfer to ICE authority. Under stated conditions, it contemplated continued physical holding at CCSO for up to 48 hours after the transfer. That document is evidence of the historical arrangement, not proof that every term remains current.
The lasting records lesson is clear. “Released from criminal custody” can describe a federal handoff, not a walk into the community. Request the CCSO destination, then use ICE’s current locator or official contact route. No ICE detention center was identified within Calhoun County, Florida, and similarly named facilities in other states must not be confused with Blountstown.
Calhoun County Release Facilities
Blountstown contains two different custody systems. The county jail holds local pretrial detainees and county-sentence prisoners under CCSO. Calhoun Correctional Institution holds adult men in Florida state custody, including people sentenced in other counties. The Work Camp is an FDC satellite that the current institution page marks temporarily closed. Its historic residents remained state prisoners, and movement to the main unit was not release.
- Calhoun County Jail: confirm community departure or transfer through CCSO and the related court record.
- Calhoun Correctional Institution: confirm state release through FDC current status, release history, and supervision history.
- Calhoun Correctional Institution Work Camp: use FDC history for prior confinement and note its current temporary closure.
A Calhoun County defendant can serve at another state institution, while a prisoner housed at Calhoun CI can have a conviction from somewhere else. County of arrest, sentencing county, facility location, and residence are separate facts.
